Ranger Men and Women Complete Season-Opening Tournaments
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Northwestern Oklahoma State’s golf teams opened up the fall schedule this week at Oklahoma City’s Lake Hefner Golf Course.
The Ranger men finished 13th in the 14 team field led by sophomore Kyle Ward who followed up a 74 in Tuesday’s opening round with a 73 on Wednesday for a two-round total of 147. Ward’s three over par placed him 33 out of 84 individuals.
The rest of the Ranger men were tightly bunched. CJ Wilson (81,76 – 157) checked in at plus-13, one stroke ahead of teammate Trevor Grinstead (81, 77 – 158) at 14-over par. Stephen Beall (82, 78 – 160) and Wayne Heffington (78, 83 – 161) shot 16 and 17-over respectively.
Oklahoma Baptist’s Todd Balkin claimed top individual honors at 14-under par, helping OBU capture the team title as well.
The Northwestern Women finished sixth out of six teams, paced by Alissa Stelling (100,94 – 194), finished 30th individually for the Rangers, just ahead of teammates of Kayla Peters and Katherine Hardenbroo. Southern Nazarene fended off Seminole State Community College and Bellevue University to win the team trophy in a battle that saw the top three teams separated by just six strokes.
The Northwestern men and women both return to action Sept. 23-25 at Oklahoma City’s Earlywine Country Club.
